Do you enjoy preparing and trying restaurant quality foods? Read on!
This Foods unit is an excellent choice if you wish to pursue further studies in VCE Food Studies Units 1 to 4 and/or VET Hospitality. It has a strong focus on popular foods currently served in cafes, for breakfast, lunch, morning and afternoon teas. The unit comprises three lessons per week, where two have a theory based focus and the third lesson is the practical component. You will cook and taste the key foods in a variety of Year 10 standard dishes. Examples of dishes made may include Double Chocolate Muffins, Chicken Schnitzel Rolls and Vietnamese Chicken Salads. The unit also has a strong focus on developing and extending your food hygiene, safety skills and knowledge, with a focus on what is required in the Hospitality industry. You will hone your skills in food presentation and styling and learn how to cost various recipes. You will be required to undertake at least three major pieces of written and/or practical work based on the Design Brief process.
Although not essential, it is expected you will have completed Food Studies in Year 7 and are able to practise your food preparation skills at home.
$95 per semester - students may be asked to provide own ingredients on some occasions.
Cost for prac sessions for the Semester are set at the start of each year.
