The Course

Students listen to music from a range of different times, places and traditions. They explore they way elments of music are and compositinal devices are used to create musical works. 

Students compose and/or arrange music and analyse the creative processs invovled. 

Unit 1 Topics

  • Responses to music- students critically respond to music. The use a range of analytical skills to explore the way the elements of music are manipluated.
  • Organisation and context- students explore the sturctureal organisation of musical works, both aurally and visually. 
  • Creative repsonses- Students compose and/or arrange a folio of short musical works

Unit 2 Topics

  • Responses to music
  • Organisation and context
  • Creative repsonsesto music in multi-disciplinary forms

Learning and Assessment Activities

  • Folio of compositions/arrangments
  • Written/oral response to music
  • Exam

Students must have some background or experience with music.
