The Course

The focus of Units 1 & 2 is on enhancing your ability to communicate and to understand and appreciate socio-cultural contexts, ideas and information. The course promotes understanding of different attitudes and values, and provides you with access to the rich and varied culture of francophone communities around the world.

Unit 1 Topics

  • It's not easy being young
  • The family
  • Literary study: poetry

Unit 2 Topics

  • What does the future have in store for us?
  • Environmental issues.

Learning and Assessment Activities

  • Listening and reading comprehension activities
  • Role plays and interviews
  • Discussion and debates
  • Skill development and grammar tasks
  • Writing tasks covering different writing styles

These units lead to

University study of French, leading to employment in the commerce, translation / interpreting, education, travel and tourism or hospitality industries (among many others).

Special considerations

Before undertaking VCE French, you should have satisfactorily completed Year 10 French and demonstrated sufficient competency in all skill areas. You must undertake Unit 3 prior to undertaking Unit 4

Costs involved

  • Possible optional trip to New Caledonia (dependent upon numbers)
  • Excursion each semester (approx. $50)

  • Exercise book from Year 10
